BATTLES OF BLACON

Tommy Dix highlights the boxers impressing in Chester

IN a bout that could not be faulted for commitment Wallasey’s Mathew Murphy stopped Blacon’s Joe Meyers with seconds remaining in the third round on Blacon ABC’s show last month. How Meyers fought to stem the tide against a well-schooled boxer had to be admired. He fought back and gave his all but Murphy stuck to his task to win a good contest.

Also on the event at Blacon High School in Chester on April 26, Halewood’s Lewis Robinson took on Chester’s Harry Walker. Robinson won a unanimous verdict over a resolute boxer who gave his all. Lewis used beautiful footwork and combinations off his southpaw jab. In Walker he faced someone with no quit in him who made him work for his victory and was not afraid to engage at close quarters.
