Leading figures foresee huge problems for the sport in coming months, writes Matt Christie

CORONAVIRUS is causing chaos all over the world, not least the sporting world. Events have been cancelled, almost all are under threat, while others have gone ahead behind closed doors. Following a number of players and managers testing positive for the virus, the Football Association last week announced that the Premier League and Football League is to be suspended until at least April 4, though it appears exceptionally unlikely action will return on that date.

Boxing is facing similar disarray.

Separate shows in America, featuring the likes of Michael Conlan, Shakur Stevenson and James Kirkland, were called off last weekend after initial plans to close the doors to the public were deemed unworkable. Subsequently, the Nevada Athletic Commission have suspended all combat sporting events, MGM Resorts in Las Vegas has suspended operations and American health agency, CDC, have recommended there will be no events attracting 50 or more people for eight weeks. The projected Billy Joe Saunders-Canelo Alvarez showdown will no longer occur in May.
