Jon Bruce sees Bayat make short work of Kulikauskis
RIB RAIDER” Bayat fires downstairs en route to easy triumph

KYNOCH BOXING PROMOTIONS held its Burns dinner show at the Crowne Plaza. The main event saw Dubai-based Iranian Mo Ali Bayat making his UK debut in a cruiserweightweight clash against Arturs Kulikauskis.

Bayat came with a reputation as a big hitter and wasn’t slow to show it. Throwing every punch with intent, he rocked his Latvian opponent three or four times in the first, but the man from the Baltic managed to survive.

It was more of the same in the second round. Kulikauskis was dropped with 59 seconds gone and was unable to recover. It was an impressive debut from Bayat. No doubt it won’t be the last time we see him here.

On the undercard, Glaswegian Jay Carrigan-McFarlane was in a heavyweight contest over four rounds against Birmingham’s Shaun Duffy.

Showing more head movement than in previous fights, Jay was always in control and decked Duffy in the final round to seal an emphatic 40-35 points win.

Trigger Wood contested a fourrounder with Lydney’s Lewis van Poetsch. The Dumfries fighter was always that bit sharper to the punch and won comfortably by 40-36.

Castlemilk’s Gary McGuire got his first victory in a four-round bout against Reading’s Ibrar Riyaz. McGuire ran out a worthy 39-37 winner.

Kenny Pringle officiated all four matchups.

THE BOSS: Tidy work behind the jab from Carrigan- McFarlane
