Starmer pledges to deliver 1.5m homes

Following swiftly on from a Conservative party conference that failed to mention housing, party leader Keir Starmer has used Labour’s conference to announce plans to build 1.5 million new homes over the next parliament. This comes hot on the heels of shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves’ promise Labour would speed up planning by reviewing development rules for construction on green belt land – potentially unlocking thousands of plots for new housebuilding opportunities.
