How did you get started being
an illustrator?
I’ve been drawing since the age of four. I studied art throughout school, then took my Associate’s Degree in Visual Arts at the Barbados Community College. I was always interested in creating art for books, but I didn’t know what that field was called until I was applying to colleges and saw Illustration among the list of majors offered by the School of Visual Arts in New York. The skills I learnt there, plus the exposure to city life and Broadway shows, shaped my understanding of what it meant to be an illustrator. I reinforced these lessons when I completed my Master’s in Illustration in the UK in 2015.
