Stafford 2022: we have the first report from the show of the year, where surprise was the keynote of the day with unexpected (but delighted) winners around the sections. As always, canaries formed the cornerstone of the great event, with numerous rare and historic breeds to complement the popular Fifes and others. Footholds at Stafford have been gained by both the London fancy and English cinnamon – the last figuring for the first time – and appropriately we’ve got a masterclass in cinnamon breeding from which any canary enthusiast could profit. As always, budgerigars are not neglected, and other expert writers discuss foreign finches, waterbirds, parrots… and more canaries.
