Struggling Norwegian pop trio A-Ha are in their room at the John Howard Hotel, London, when they learn that their single Take On Me has reached No.1 in the Billboard Top 40 Singles chart in the US.
The band came to London in 1982 and, by April 1983, had scraped together enough cash to buy some time in a recording studio. One of the first songs they’d recorded, Take On Me, was released on 19 October 1984, but flopped spectacularly.
