MADNESS
THE RISE & FALL
BMG
★★★★
Arriving just seven months after their chart-topping Complete Madness compilation, the Camden jesters’ fourth album was far from clumsy. Their trademark instrumentation remained in place but Tomorrow’s Just Another Day’s arrangements highlighted the album’s more advanced, conceptual, albeit deceptive complexity. Are You Coming (With Me) sidled up to The Specials and Primrose Hill added fabulous village brass band stylings, while Blue Skinned Beast was a sometimes noisy, satirical tribute to Margaret Thatcher.
