It’s no secret that SEMA builds are a big deal. Businesses that embark on these ground-up projects typically pool resources from all over the country to showcase the latest and greatest aftermarket components and paint schemes, often on the latest and greatest trucks being produced in Detroit. As part-owner of Velocity Auto Body in southeastern Idaho, a two-shop operation that specializes in custom paint and auto body work, Alan Nickell and his team had been privy to adding the finishing touches to various SEMA builds over the years. However, for 2017, Alan wanted to piece together his own project for the big show.

Blazing a slightly different trail thanks to sound advice from good friend and owner of nearby PowerTech Diesel, Brent Willsey, Alan refrained from buying a brand-new truck for the build. Instead, he would transform his 12,000-mile daily driver, a ’16 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD High Country, into one of the most appealing rides in Vegas. First and foremost—and knowing that the 10-to-12-inch lift he planned to add would afford him the ability to run a sizeable wheel and tire combo—the factory Chevy fender wells had to be cut out and rounded off.
