ODSS 2018 SEASON RECAP

RECORDS, WRECKS & TECHNOLOGY ABOUND IN DIESEL’S HOTTEST RACING SERIES

It was a wild year for the Outlaw Diesel Super Series. Pretty much anything that could happen in the diesel industry’s newest drag racing circuit, happened. Wade Moody set a new elapsed time and trap speed record in Pro Dragster, the quickest ET in Pro Mod history was reset four times, and Lavon Miller even eclipsed his own Pro Street record—even though he broke the “rules” to do it. Dustin Jackson all but dominated the Pro Street category and Ryan Riddle walked away from the rest of the 7.70 Index field, while Rick Fox, Mike Coleman, and Ken Phillips all won tight points chases in their classes (5.90 Index, 6.70 Index, and ET Bracket, respectively).

Many competitors faced ups and downs, while others simply turned in consistent efforts round after round, race after race. We witnessed several vehicle debuts in 2018, along with a lot of revamped, re-certified candidates from 2017. Throughout the sixrace, six-month schedule, many competitors would experience close calls, and two trucks would even hit the wall. New technology filled the pits as well. Wilson Patterson Diesel’s trans-braked and four-wheel-drive TH400 in Stainless Diesel’s Pro Street Dodge, SunCoast’s non-lockup converters limiting breakage, BD Diesel’s re-stallable Hi5 converter, and more custom 9-inch axles highlighted some of the cutting-edge components that helped competitors get through the ‘660 more quickly this year.

For a full recap of the top moments along the 2018 ODSS racing circuit, look no further. From Rudy’s Season Opener to Rudy’s Fall Diesel Jam, we’ve got things covered from wire to wire.

PRO MOD: The Fiercest Competition in Years

With several vehicle debuts, 11 drivers signed up to compete, and so many teams gunning for new records, Pro Mod was arguably the most exciting class to watch in 2018. And the fact that the points chase came down to the wire certainly added to the drama. Among the front-runners, each race essentially became a three-way shootout between Ben Shadday, Larson Miller, and Rawlings Barnes to see who could go the fastest. Here, Shadday (right) squares off against Miller at the Rocky Top Diesel Shootout.

First Place: Ben Shadday
