We’ve waited long enough but, after years of speculation, the new Canon mirrorless flagship has arrived with a spec list that is sure to raise a few eyebrows. We admit that we were unsure where to place the EOS R1 on this leaderboard. The Sony A9 III offers strong competition for almost £1,000 less but, while many are disappointed by the R1’s pixel count, it brings some imaginative features to the table. An incredible native ISO 102,400, 96MP in-camera upscaling, -7.5EV focus sensitivity and improved Eye-Control AF all make it an action photography powerhouse that’s going to be difficult to beat. n
