Out on the mic: the LGBT underground

LGBT Underground was founded in 2009 by EvOn Scarlett as a way to increase space for queer and trans people of colour. “Being an out hip-hop artist myself,” she says, “I wanted to address the lack of specifi c outlets for music from the urban LGBT community.”

Scarlett soon began blogging to build a platform and outlet for underrepresented LGBT artists – some of whom you’ll fi nd on these pages – who she believes are equal to and in many cases better than anything else on your iPod.
