MONEYSAVING

THERE IS A PERFECT DAY TO BOOK YOUR FLIGHTS

Booking flights can be a frustrating experience, especially when you’re trying to save money and prices keep fluctuating. However, new research has found that there is such a thing as a cheapest time to buy. Online travel agency CheapAir has analysed approximately three million airline trips and the best day to book a flight is… *drumroll*… 54 days ahead of departure. Or 53, 52 or 45, sometimes it’s 60. It’s a little complicated. What CheapAir discovered was a “prime booking window” between 112-21 days before departure. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are typically the cheapest days to fly but when seasonality comes into play all rules go out of the window. (Spring Break in Florida? Forget it.) This applies most if you’re flying economy in the US. European flights are cheapest earlier; approximately 276 days ahead of travel, and the experts even suggested considering booking as soon as tickets go on sale, often 11 months in advance. When not to book? Less than two weeks ahead of travel.
