AT THE END of last year I was finally able to scratch off a place that’s been on my must-visit list for quite some time: Cuba. As an American, Cuba has always been so close, but just out of reach due to the tense relationship between their government and my own. While the rest of the world seems to have long ago discovered the beauty and wonder of this Caribbean island, it’s been a forbidden place for most Americans. With diplomatic relations improving only last year, the doors are slowly opening to this little island stuck in time, just 90 miles [or 145 kms] from the USA.
An influx of American tourists is likely just around the corner, and I knew that my time to get there before they did was running out.
