Hiya gang! How ya doin’? Yes, it’s your old pal Frobisher here, lookin’ after the DWM letters page just like I did way-back-when. So, grab yourself a chocolate pilchard and let’s take a looksee at what’s in the mailbag...

The Mighty 500!

DAVID MCKINLAY MELBOURNE A quick word of congratulations on reaching a rare milestone of 500 issues.

For those of us with long memories and a long association with Doctor Who (since the Hartnell days!), the magazine has been, for over 35 years, a source of constant information. You’ve adapted to colour printing, many changes of format, a series being cancelled then revived, a digital alternative and the advent of the Internet, and of course many a regeneration of the Doctor.

Thank you for bringing fans together the world over – and closer to home as well. One morning, I was reading the DWM on the train on my daily commute. I could sense my fellow passenger beside me peeking at what I was reading. After a time she could no longer contain herself and asked where I found the magazine. We had an enjoyable chat about Doctor Who for the remainder of the journey and your circulation numbers increased by one that day. Here’s to Issue One Thousand!

BRYN MITCHELL (15) WARRINGTON DWM 499’s cover boldly proclaims, in reference to its article on what it means to live forever in the Doctor Who universe, “We help ourselves to IMMORTALITY!” But surely, the brilliant DWM, which is now celebrating its 500th issue claimed this prize long ago. What other explanation is there for its persistence (including 16 years without any televised series) than the magazine at some point or another taking a cheeky swig of the Sisterhood of Karn’s Elixir of Life?

KEN KIELTYKA EMAIL Five hundred! Finally! I started with Issue 79. Great way to start off, with a Season Survey result issue. I have loved the magazine ever since, and loved how it’s always been there, TV show or not. Issue 400 is my favourite issue since it gave such a great sense and review of what DWM has been all about. It was so great in fact, that I was bummed I’d have to wait over seven years for Issue 500! I was looking forward to Issue 450, figuring that would be a nice special issue on the way to Issue 500, which it was, and in that issue, I even finally got a letter published, after all these years.
