The new series of Doctor Who – starring Peter Capaldi, Pearl Mackie and Matt Lucas – gets underway on Easter Saturday in the UK, and around the world. The series will be the tenth since the show’s revival in 2005, and the 36th in total since 1963.
Doctor Who is returning to its spring slot on BBC One that it enjoyed between 2005 and 2013, kicking off with Episode 1, The Pilot (previously reported with the working title A Star in Her Eye), on Saturday 15 April. At the time of going to press, the precise start time had not been confirmed, but the series will hopefully be returning to the early part of BBC One’s evening schedule, as opposed to the post-8pm timeslots in which it had generally been placed for much of the 2014 and 2015 runs, which were heavily criticised by the show’s stars and producers [see Gallifrey Guardian’s report in DWM 494].
