New year, new Doctor – Jodie Whittaker tells DWM about shooting her regeneration scene, finding inspiration for her costume and trusting her instincts.

It’s mid-December and recording is underway on the next series of Doctor Who. Director Jamie Childs has brought his crew to a picturesque location outside Cardiff, where it would be fair to describe the temperature as ‘bracing’. In fact, earlier today it dipped well below freezing.

Fortunately, the inhospitable weather has done nothing to dampen Jodie Whittaker’s effervescent spirit. “We get it easier than the crew”, she says, sympathising with her colleagues. “We sit in a nice tent between scenes. They have to stay out all day.”
