COLONY IN SPACE

UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE TIME LORDS, the TARDIS takes the Doctor and Jo Grant to the planet Uxarieus. There they meet a group of human colonists living with the indigenous ‘primitives’ in a state of uneasy truce. A mining robot is secretly prospecting nearby. When two colonists are killed, seemingly by a giant lizard, the Doctor investigates but is attacked by the robot. The machine’s assault is checked by the arrival of Caldwell, a mineralogist with the Interplanetary Mining Corporation.

IMC’s survey shows that Uxarieus is rich in the priceless mineral duralinium. Having met the Doctor, IMC’s leader, Captain Dent, secretly instructs his underling, Morgan, to kill him. The Doctor tells Morgan that he believes the ‘lizard’ attack was faked and Morgan reveals the true culprit: the mining robot. Now equipped with ‘lizard’ claws, the robot advances once more on the Doctor, who overcomes Morgan and uses the robot’s remote control to deactivate it.
