THE WATERS OF MARS

IN THE RIM OF THE GUSEV CRATER ON MARS, THE Doctor is held at gunpoint by Gadget, a robot from Earth’s first off-world colony. Arrested for trespassing, the Doctor meets the crew of Bowie Base One and their pioneering commander, Captain Adelaide Brooke. But his delight turns to horror when he discovers he’s arrived on 21 November 2059 – a fixed point in time when the base will be destroyed by a nuclear explosion.

When contact is lost with officers Andy Stone and Maggie Cain in the Bio-Dome, the Doctor investigates with Brooke, Dr Tarak Ital and Gadget. En route, however, they find Cain lying unconscious in the access corridor. Deputy Ed Gold and nurse Yuri Kerenski transfer Cain to the Medical Dome while the Doctor, Brooke and Ital explore the Bio-Dome. There, a hideously mutated Stone attacks Ital, drenching him in water which instantly results in the same mutation. The Doctor and Brooke only just escape with the help of Gadget, riding on the robot’s rear platform to outrun Stone and Ital.
