Organising a one-name study can seem a daunting task, but it does not need to be. Firstly, consider what you want to achieve with your study and then ensure you have the right tools for the job! When I started my study, I used index cards and that was useful three decades ago. Now I want to have all my material on a website and use the Guild of One-Name Studies’ members’ benefit of the Members’ Website Project. In order to get to the website, this mountain of material needs to be entered in my family history program – as I want to build family groups. I also want to reduce the number of spreadsheets that I hold.
