Findmypast has created a new global family tree to help genealogists collaborate with fellow researchers to explore shared trees and heritage.
The project, announced at RootsTech 2018, is currently in beta phase, but users can explore the tree and search for ancestors. Later, users should be able to add details of their own ancestors and, once officially launched, anyone with a family tree on Findmypast will be able to merge their tree into the world family tree if they wish.
FamilySearch, which curates the world’s largest family tree, is described by Findmypast as being the ‘cornerstone of this initiative’, with the common goal ‘to spend less time searching for ancestors and more time discovering and connecting’.
