NOT A TRIUMPH
◼ Guy Martin's long aborted attempt to break the land speed record on two wheels came to an abrupt end when his Rocket Streamliner crashed on the Bonneville salt, scuppering any chance of a push for glory in the short weather and track window available. Sights were set on 400mph, and an August shakedown saw Guy Martin hit 274mph with plenty more to come, but a lack of grip meant that Martin lost control of the, er, bike and that was the end of that. This whole attempt was put on hold after Martin injured himself at last year's Ulster GP meet, and this latest problem means that the whole attempt may be spread over three years. You don't want to rush these things, except when you're going for it, but patience looks to be the key to this attempt. Expect to see it all on telly over winter..
