Fast Bikes reader Neil tells us why his bargain bullet Kwacker is all the bike he needs.

A plumber by day, Neil’s committed an unholy amount of his free time to trackdays, grand tours and endless hours spent fettling race bikes. He’s been riding since he was a teenager and is mad for sportsbikes. From motards to adventure bikes, he’s had them all over the years, but rates his ZX-9R as his most rounded tool to date.

Big, bold and a bargain.

I’m sure plenty of you reading this will be all too aware of the realities that start hitting you when you reach the grand old age 40. You’re probably reading this mag at an arm’s length, the hair that once formed your fringe has probably relocated to your ears and nostrils, and your back will probably feel as if you wake up every day to the pains of an elephant having trampled on it. Although I wouldn’t wish getting old on anyone, if it hasn’t happened to you yet, well it’s only going to be a matter of time. And when it does happen you have got two choices; you can grow old gracefully, swap your superbike for a pipe and slippers and spend the rest of your days telling the grandkids how fast you used to be, or you can do what I did and scoop yourself up a bargain-basement sports-tourer from yesteryear. Call it growing old disgracefully, if ya like. Okay, I realise 40 years old is hardly geriatric, but despite my brain still firing as fast as it was when I was 20, my particularly creaky back was starting to prevent me from folding my 6ft 2in frame into a sportsbike crouch several years back. Something needed to change.
