Arrival For many, sci-fi denotes a movie full of aliens, gore and green-skinned sexbots. So how about we just label Arrival as ‘bloody brilliant’? It’s not only the best sci-fi of 2016, but one of the year’s best movies, full stop. The plot may sound pretentious (moody spaceships park in various spots around the globe, linguists and physicists team up to decipher their intentions), but a stellar, Oscar-contending performance from Amy Adams, a smart, emotive script, and moody direction from Denis Villeneuve ensure you’re gripped – and moved – throughout. Rated 5 out of 5 stars
