The price of love

In an age where we’re relying on technology to help us meet Mr Right, how much are you prepared to spend on finding love?

More than a decade ago, internet dating was often dismissed as a last resort by desperate singles trying to find love.

But ten years is a long time in the World Wide Web. And it was gay men who first saw the potential in finding a one-nighter or, if they were lucky, a long-term partner through their keyboard.

Gaydar was once the only one-stop shop to find new friends, sex or love. Then came the likes of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. But it was the power of the app that revolutionised the hook-up. Now, Scruff, Tinder and of course Grindr have made it almost effortless to meet other like-minded gentlemen.

But there’s a lot to be said for tried and tested methods, too. Dating agencies, social events and real-life social networking are still well-subscribed tools, depending on your budget.

Whether you’re skint or have a spare £50,000 to spend, we look at the cost of finding love in 2016 – and where to go to find it.
