This might seem a bit silly on the surface, but I’ve been following the recent string of ‘Grindr murders’ on the news. Stephen Port in particular. I can’t get my head around how he was able to get away with what he was doing for so long! I’m a single gay man, living in London, I’m in my early 30s and I love hooking up, sex and meeting fresh faces on apps like Grindr and Scruff – I certainly don’t see myself ready to settle down just yet. But I can’t shake the feeling of fear in light of these recent tragedies. Those poor men had no idea what was in their fate when they walked into the homes of people they – absentmindedly or not – trusted. I’m starting to feel a bit scared to express my sexuality in this way. Should I give the apps in? Or am I, as ever, getting myself unnecessarily worked up? From SH
