MUNA Around U There are many reasons why MUNA could become your new favourite band. The allfemale, all-queer LA trio make shimmering guitar-pop which wouldn’t sound out of place on a cooler 80s teen movie. Their latest single I Know a Place is a life-affirming celebration of LGBT+ safe spaces. And this debut album begins with a song that packs in two distinct choruses and a line about going down on someone in a gallery – which is surely even dirtier than doing so in a theatre. After that, they barely put a foot wrong as they sing about their mistakes, resilience and kind of messy relationships. Stirring stuff.

ZAK ABEL Only When We’re Naked This 21-yearold Londoner comes off like a younger, cooler Olly Murs on his thoroughly decent debut album. Unstable, Still Want UUU and Awakening are catchy tropical pop tunes, the title track is like a Jess Glynne jam with added sex appeal, and Deserve to be Loved is a very creditable ballad. Broken and Beautiful Life sound like they belong on a boring teenager’s gap year play list, but Abel gets away with it because his strong, soulful voice is so appealing. Only When We’re Naked probably lacks a killer hit single, but don’t write off this promising new artist.
