2016: in numbers

It goes without saying that while the past 12 months have seen some highs, it’s also seen a hell of a lot of lows. From the European Union referendum to Trump’s flabbergasting snatch of power; from the loss of icons like David Bowie, Victoria Wood and Pete Burns, to the loss of 49 of our brothers and sisters in the single worst terrorist attack against LGBT+ people at Orlando’s Pule nightclub; from homophobic cake makers to homophobic champion athletes. It’s probably been one of the worst years for news since social media began. But it hasn’t all been doom and gloom – we’ve welcomed famous faces into our LGBT+ family like Colton Haynes, fought tirelessly – and it seems successfully – for PrEP on the NHS, potentially saving countless lives, and made history with the most out LGBT+ athletes in any Olympic Games. Before we go through it all again in 2017, here’s the biggest news stories from the past 12 months that had you all clicking, tweeting and sharing – in numbers.
