RIYADH explains it all

Yes, yes, we got a YouTuber naked. And it might be the last thing you want to see as you’re polishing off the last of that selection box. But it’s all for a good reason, honest. As part of a BBC Three documentary set to air in 2017 exploring the different facets of modern gay life, we asked Riyadh Khalaf to confront his body issues by taking it all off. And to add some meat of these bones, we sat the 25-year-old down to find out what he’s learned about the gay community’s relationship with their body, why self-esteem issues arise in the first place and what we can do to help things get better…

INTERVIEW

Yes, this is 25-year-old Irish YouTube extraordinaire and LGBT+ activist Riyadh Khalaf completely starkers. In the buff. Wearing nothing but a smile. But this isn’t gratuitous nudity for the sake of gratuitous nudity. There’s a good reason behind it, honest.

For the past several months, Riyadh has been on a journey exploring all aspects of modern life for us LGBT+ folk – everything from how our sexuality affects our faith, to the problems with racism on the scene, to the role porn plays in our life, and even on the power of the word ‘queer’. The results of which will become a sixpart documentary series airing on BBC Three in February 2017.

One issue Riyadh has been trying to get to grips with though is how we, as gay people, feel about our bodies – our insecurities, our self-esteem issues, and where it all comes from. And we figured there’d be no better way to help Riyadh with this than by having him confront his own body issues by whipping it all off and baring all in a classic Gok-Wan-How-to-Look- Good-Naked-esque reveal. And if the pictures aren’t enough, you can catch the whole shoot on BBC Three once the documentary airs, too…
