Homophobia v free speech

Analysis Following yet another vile, homophobic rant, Azealia Banks has finally been kicked off Twitter. But what about the countless other homophobes on social media? And by banning, is there a risk of compromising free speech?

Racist and homophobic slurs can’t be allowed to fly without fierce condemnation.

But condemnation can mean different things, from simple criticism to legal punishment. And Azealia Banks’ twisted recent remarks to Zayn Malik bring that problem to light.

Banks, suspicious that Malik had copied one of her music videos, exploded in a series of abusive tweets that morphed into slimecovered earthworms for common media buzzards – there are hundreds of thousands of links on the internet about the incident, for example. “U a bitch nigga,” she fired at Malik, which escalated quickly with jabs like, “U hairy curry scented bitch,” and, “Ride this dickk until the wheels fall of Punjab.”

Difficult to read, isn’t it?
