Nico Tortorella first caught our eye way back in 2011 when he starred in Scream 4. We then fell in love with the young actor thanks to his turn in TV Land comedy-drama Younger, and by the time his critically acclaimed podcast The Love Bomb came around, we were practically down on one knee and picking out the wallpaper. Only inevitable, then, that we got him on the cover of GT to talk life, love, ambitions, bisexuality, and being the change you want to see in the world…

His otherworldly confidence isn’t a recent occurrence, either. Hailing from Wilmette, Illinois, in the heart of Middle America, Nico seemed to have an urge to stray from the pack from an early age. “I have this really vivid image of me [in junior high] wearing this bright orange soccer jersey, overalls on top of it, and a pair of rain boots,” the 28-year-old recalls. “I was doing it because it was what I wanted to wear for the day and I got made fun of. But I almost took pride in the fact that I was getting made fun of.”
