life in plastic it’ s fantastic!

For Brazilian-born Rodrigo Alves, image is everything. After experiencing relentless bullying over his appearance as a teenager, he went under the knife in an attempt to turn his life around. Now, more than 50 surgeries later – including face lifts, muscle implants, and fillers that left him paralysed for a month –_Rodrigo says he’s finally happy with the way he looks. But that won’t stop him from having even more work done…

The first surgery I ever had was to remove my boobs. I had something called gynaecomastia, which is the enlargement of the male breast tissue, and this made my childhood very difficult.

Growing up in Brazil, I was the fat, ugly-shaped kid. I didn’t fit into the Brazilian stereotype of beauty at all. In Brazil, all the boys love to play football, but I never played sports. I am different, and I grew up differently to everyone else. I was bullied a lot, and the people around me made it very clear to me that I wasn’t one of them.
