Facing the fear of Gymidation… Why do we find the gym sointimidating when we are all there for the same good reasons?

Someone on Twitter lastweek mentioned that theywanted to get bigger purelyso they could enter the freeweights section of the gymwithout feeling inadequate.

This wasn’t the first timeI’d heard this. Recently theJanuary newcomers had filledall the gyms with peoplelooking to cash in their NewYear’s resolutions and I spoketo a few friends who weretaking the opportunity to turnover a new leaf. One friend toldme they’d already quit and fora similar reason to the Twitterperson – they felt like peoplewere judging them. I found thisreally upsetting, but I was moreannoyed with my friend forquitting. What a silly reason. But then, doing my best CarrieBradshaw, ‘I got to thinking’that I’ve definitely experiencedthat before in my life.
