GAME OF THE MONTH

Guitar Hero LiveAll formats

This generation of console mainstays seem to have disposed with the emphasis on social games, leaving the lighter end of video gaming to the tablet and smartphone brigade, so things like SingStar and Guitar Hero feel a little anachronistic these days. Activision is aiming to change that, however, with the return of Guitar Hero, released across formats this month. This time around – and as is increasingly the case across the board – the emphasis is on seemingly-endless content. Guitar Hero Live comes with two modes, namely the eponymous Live aspect, which has you playing to crowds at your very own concert, and Guitar Hero TV, which lets you plunder a huge roster of music videos across every conceivable genre (involving guitars, that is). So if you’re more Shania Twain than Sex Pistols, worry not – there’s a home here for you too. The game comes with the guitar peripheral, but only time will tell if the avalanche of add-ons make a reappearance. But Rock Band 4 is also out – in the interests of balance – and that arrives with a full, pricey bundle of instruments to wave around. So, you know, choose your weapon!
