LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Don’t tell me that it’s been 20 years since Hollyoaks started. No, really, please don’t. I remember watching the first episode. Hell, I remember writing to the production office and asking for signed photos of the cast. Yes, we used to do that back in those days. What am I talking about, I’m sure that people still do. And why wouldn’t you? Just look at them! Now I write to them for whole other reasons! It wasn’t always quite like this, the men on the show weren’t quite so prone to losing all their clothing. On screen or in the pages of GT, even. We were a mere ten years old when Hollyoaks first started on Channel 4, but we’ve certainly made up for it since then. I’ve lost track of the amount of Hollyoaks bums and bulges I’ve had to avert my gaze from while my pug merrily trots into shot on set. And on that note, we welcome Kieron Richardson and James Sutton back to our cover AGAIN. Again, why wouldn’t you? And joined by the lovely Ross Adams and pectacular Parry Glasspool. Thank goodness for them, and all the other actors that’ve had gay storylines on the show over the years – and there have been MANY... Because way back then, when Hollyoaks started on 23 October 1995, we didn’t have the representation that you see nowadays. Even Queer as Folk, which many cite as being when things ‘changed’, was still four years away at that point. Hollyoaks didn’t hang around after that. It’s become one of the most inclusive shows out there. I wish it’d been that way when I first tuned in, but it’s more than made up for it in the last two decades. And I’ve certainly made up for it with many a Hollyoaks hunk since. So here’s to 20 years of Hollyoaks, with love and thanks and, most of all, the hope we’ll be seeing more of them in the pages of GT in the future...

About Gay Times

Two things: it’s the October issue. October, you say? Better start on that Christmas list then! Second: it’s been 20 years since Hollyoaks launched on UK TV. Where has the time gone you ask? We’re not sure either but to celebrate the passing of this year (and the last twenty), we’ve pulled off a blinder and got you not one, two or even three Hollyoaks hotties but a quartet of soapland studs. You’ll instantly recognize both Kieron Richardson and James Sutton – both veterans of GT - having racked up no less than 3 covers and countless in-mag appearance between them; for good reason. Let us also introduce Parry Glasspool and Ross Adams for those of you who aren't yet familiar. Ross is a proper gent in real life but since hitting our screens back in April his character - Scott Drinkwell – has already helped kidnap a baby, lied about his HIV status and tried to come between lovebirds Ste and John Paul (played by Kieron and James). Tsk tsk. We’d say it’s time to stop and catch your breath but before you come up for air, take note: Parry Glasspool. Page 42. GT October. S’all we are saying. Also in this issue – wait there’s more? Yep… We met up with Dannii Minogue backstage before her gig at this year’s Manchester Pride for an exclusive chat. Exclusive means you won’t find it anywhere else, so we’ll leave this here and let you read the full interview, only in this month’s GT. And... Connor Franta Christos Tsiolkas Empire Cuffs Lauren Harries does Sweetie, Darling?
