Jeffrey Tambor

Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor Jeffrey Tambor has been making waves and blurring boundaries as Maura on Amazon’s spellbinding comedy-drama Transparent. And with the third season coming to a streaming service near you, the 72-year-old talks the societal importance of a show like Transparent, taking flack for being a cisgendered man playing a trans woman, and how learning from Maura means he has anything but an arrested development…

Playing a transgender woman has been transformative for Jeffrey Tambor. “I think I’m a better father, a better husband and hopefully a better actor,” says the dad of five and recipient of a Golden Globe, Primetime Emmy and Screen Actors Guild Award for his astonishing performance on the groundbreaking Transparent.

As the brilliant Amazon Studios comedydrama returns for a third series, the 72-yearold actor muses about how Maura Pfefferman – the trans parent of the title who used to be Mort – has affected him.

“It sounds a bit precious but in a way she’s teaching me. I used to be an actor who not only memorised my lines but also everybody else’s and I’d also plan every gesture. But with Maura, I don’t always know what I’m going to do next.”
