I have a little boy who is due to start school for the first time at the beginning of September. Granted, most of the logistics have been taken care of thanks to his mum, but I’ve been consulted and my advice has been patiently heard, if not acted on! The thing is, there is so much to think about, organise and worry about – uniform, getting him to and from school, his transition to a new school environment and every parent’s major concern about making friends and being happy.
What is not on our ‘worry agenda’ is what he can and can’t eat, which is a blessing, however, this is not the case for all parents. Having a child with coeliac disease, a gluten intolerance or in fact any allergy is top priority when dispatching a little one off into a new environment. This month, we tackle just that scenario on page 28 where we offer advice on what to eat, what to make and how to avoid issues, while on page 40 we look at some of the best lunchbox ideas available on the high street.
