Guitar Magazine  |  May 17

The May 2017 issue of Guitar & Bass magazine is on sale now and comes complete with a free FX mag for every reader. Alongside as a world-exclusive, in-depth look at the stripped Les Paul that Paul Kossoff played during Free's iconic Isle Of Wight performance in 1970, there's a smorgasbord of hot new gear under the microscope from the likes of Eastman, Stone Deaf, Fender and Keeley. We also take a trip to Mexico to see the new Taylor Academy Series instruments roll off the production line. Back in South Wales, Huw Price sprays the final coats of nitrocellulose in a Gretsch restoration project that’s been a year in the making.

As if the Paul Kossoff Burst wasn’t enough to keep blues-rockers happy, we also revisit Eric Clapton’s revolutionary playing in Cream. Soul lovers are well served too by a new interview with legendary Stax man Steve Cropper. ‘Mr Telecaster’ Bill Kirchen and Suzi Quatro also feature.

We’re bristling with stars this month – inside your free FX magazine, That Pedal Show and TheGigRig’s Daniel Steinhardt talks us through the pedalboards he built for the likes of Noel Gallagher and Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien. You’ll also find the pedal mag stuffed with tone tips, buying advice, builder profiles, real-world road tests and more.

For all of the above and plenty more besides, pick up a print or digital copy of Guitar & Bass today. It’s the best-value and most in-depth guitar magazine in the business and essential reading for guitar addicts.

However for iOS we recommend an iPad Air/iPhone 5s or better for performance and stability. Earlier models with lower processor and RAM specifications may experience slower page rendering and occasional app crashes which are outside of our control.

Please, please, never stop including hugely important review info such as neck widths & depths, and string spacings at nut and bridge. These are immensely helpful, and getting hard to find. They tell a great deal about an instrument and its suitability for a possible buyer. Well done! Reviewed July 13, 2020
