TALKING POINTS
DRINKING MILK was never one of my favourite things when I was at school, but then I GOT MY CALCIUM IN OTHER WAYS. Ski yogurts in waxy containers (showing my age!), Rice Krispies with milk, cheese on toast, milky rice pudding and the occasional Angel Delight were among my favourites. Lately, it has become fashionable for young girls to DITCH THE DAIRY, but by doing so many could be fast-tracking themselves to a calcium deficiency and the RISK OF OSTEOPOROSIS (weakened bones) in later life. Take note: one in two women and one in five men suffer from breakages over the age of 50. The reason this is a worry is that we all need to lay down the foundations of STRONG BONES up to the age of 21 by eating enough calcium (after that, it’s hard to increase our bone density). This vital mineral is also ESSENTIAL FOR HEALTHY MUSCLES and nerves throughout our lives.
