HEART HEALTH FOR LESS
We love the flavour of extra-virgin olive oil, which is why it often features in our recipes. And, being FULL OF HEART-FRIENDLY POLYUNSATURATES, it’s one of the healthiest oils. But if you want a cheaper option, don’t worry – COMMON VEGETABLE OILS ARE JUST AS HEART FRIENDLY, according to experts. ‘Your choice of oil really depends on personal preference and what you’re using it for,’ says Alice H Lichtenstein of Tufts University Cardiovascular Nutrition Laboratory. She’s quick to point out, though, that tropical oils such as COCONUT AND PALM OIL are high in saturated fat and not, therefore, recommended as pantry staples. And remember to stick to our stated quantities – all oils, regardless of their health benefits, provide about 99 calories and 14g fat per tablespoon.
