Fibre is having its moment. Around 90% of us in the UK don’t eat nearly enough. You may think fibre is only an issue if you suffer from constipation. Not so! We need it for the normal functioning of our gut, which can determine our general health and immunity. Now a well researched study has confirmed that meeting the recommended 30g fibre a day lowers our risk of heart disease and stroke. Our feature, Why you should fall in love with fibre (p16), offers quick and easy ways to eat more. Meeting your five-a-day will give you a head start, and a plant-based diet with wholegrains, nuts and lentils is the way to go.
