CHEESY DOES IT
Cheese before bed might not be a bad idea after all. A new study suggests having some pre-sleep protein in the form of casein – found in dairy products such as cheese and milk – could contribute to gains in muscle mass and strength. Muscles need amino acids from dietary protein to grow and repair. The thinking is that since the body doesn’t store protein, making it available while you rest overnight primes the body for boosting muscle mass.
Participants in the small study, who each had a pre-sleep casein shake, reported no fat gain or change in appetite the following morning.
