Even with thorough planning and preparation our renovation, extension and self-build projects can sometimes hit the odd bump in the road; some of us may well be experiencing this at present. A hike in the price of some key building materials, long lead-in times, and a surge in demand which ultimately means professionals and trades are inundated with work, has created a perfect storm. While a boon for the industry – construction output reportedly reached a 24- year high this summer –I must admit, it’s not the easiest of times to be taking on a building project Even working for this title, I find myself similarly affected — and if I had a pound each and every time the rising cost of timber was mentioned, then my renovation might have pretty much paid for itself.
