Expert advice and tried and tested products for you, by Hayley Gilbert

Safe and secure

Myfox has launched the world’s first proactive smart home security solution with a home alarm and camera that can help prevent a break-in before it actually happens. The products are sleek and discreet and can be set up in minutes, with no wires or drills. Using the free Myfox Security Smartphone App, you can control the alarm and camera and invite trusted friends and neighbours to access the system, which will alert them via text message if there is an intrusion. The alarm costs £249 and the camera is £169, and you can get both at Amazon.

About Homestyle

The long awaited arrival of the summer sun means this month we’re focusing on extending our living space outdoors. If you don’t have acres to play with, fear not, as we’ve mustered plenty of simple and cost-effective ways for gardening in a small space on page 72. If the idea of stepping into the fresh air appeals, while making a quid or two at the same time, Abbi gives us the low down on trading your wares in her boot sale boot camp. For those after some real home inspo on a shoestring, you’re in luck! Erin Hayhow showcases her own art for a truly creative space (p.14), Cathy Locke proves once and for all that kitsch really is cool (p.50), Laura Goble makes a heavenly find by fixing up a church pew (p.38), and Sooz Gordon demonstrates that dark walls are gorgeous, not gloomy (p.26) – navy is the new magnolia, FYI. Feel like your home is beyond salvation? Close down the Rightmove app until you’ve read our six-page special on low cost revamps and straightforward renovations over on page 60. You may just learn to fall back in love with your home. After all that, you’ll probably be feeling a little peckish, which is why we have a fiesta of Mediterranean recipes for you (p.88), plus mid-week dinners for rumbling tummies who just can’t wait (p86). Enjoy, HomeStylers!
