Emma had a stroke of genius when redecorating her living room. ‘When I moved in, the old blocked-up fireplace looked so ugly. I wanted to keep costs down, so I painted the surround, then created the backing and base of the fireplace with marble-effect laminate, which cost £75 from eBay. I then popped my little electric stove heater from Robert Dyas in the middle to complete the look’
