The Orkney News

The Orkney News launched on the 1st of February as a way of bringing the alternative news to our island communities. The national newspapers do not reach Orkney until after midday (if at all). Our only local radio station BBC Radio Orkney provides a half hour broadcast on week day mornings and a slightly longer one in the evenings. We have one local newspaper which comes out on a Thursday. Born out of an idea by Helen Armet, now the sub editor, a group of us decided we needed to do something about this. Despite the doubters who said that there was not enough news to sustain us – here we are going from strength to strength.
