Framing question
I have a problem cutting mounts and wondered if anyone can give advice? Very occasionally I frame one of my pictures and find that my local charity shop usually has a selection of good-quality inexpensive frames. I discard the picture that comes with them and also the mount, as it’s rarely the correct size to use. This means that I have to cut a new mount, which is where my problems arise.
As I do this so rarely, I purchased a budget mount cutter. I mark the dimensions on the back of the mount and position the plastic rule in the correct place and then clip the cutter holder into the groove on the rule with the blade inclined at the 45- degree setting. When I slide the cutter holder along the rule to make the cut I find that the blade is forced away from the cut line and I end up with a curved cut instead of a straight one. I use a sharp blade on normal card mount (about 1.5mm thick). Am I expecting too much for a budget mount cutter on this thickness of card or am I doing something wrong?
