Tim Fisher responds to a reader’s question this month, asking how he could paint realistic-looking curves on a church steeple. It’s quite a challenge and needs accurate ellipses and perspective in the drawing stage, while a series of washes, including flat and gradated, are used to create the illusion of the curved structure. I hope you try these techniques for yourself and, as always, please let me know how you get on.
