Q&A Painting in series

Does anyone have experience of planning a series of work? I don’t mean something general, like landscapes, where I add one to the collection every now and then; I mean a series of paintings with a set number on a common theme, a definitive look and a deadline date with the aim of exhibiting them altogether, either in one place or online.

Questions that spring to mind are: can the series have different size paintings or are they normally all the same size? I’m thinking I will produce a few large, medium and works on paper. Does the artist work on other paintings at the same time or totally immerse themselves in the series until it’s complete? Does the artist also sell any of the work as they go along or wait for the big unveiling all at the same time?
