4 Smart sleep in Istanbul
Istanbul’s rise to the upper echelons of cool continues this month, as the latest (and largest) branch of arty members’ club Soho House opens in the city. Set inside a 19th-century palazzo in the buzzing neighbourhood of Beyoğlu, it’s crammed with such old-world opulence as Carrara marble floors, rosewood doors and ceilings painted with scenes from Greek mythology. In theory, you never need leave: as well as smart rooms with carved headboards and velvet armchairs to lounge in, there’s space a-plenty devoted to eating, drinking and merrymaking, from the chandelier-hung drawing room and Med restaurant, to a bar and live-music stage. When the sun’s out, you’ll want to be on the rooftop, dining al fresco or lazing by the pool, all the while enjoying views of the Golden Horn.
